Dubbo and the Great western plains are one of regional NSW’s most popular family destinations.

With plenty of attractions for the adventurous explorer, Dubbo is truly the outback heart of the State.

The great western plains are perfect for exploring on two wheels or four. Cyclways criss-cross the city area, along the banks of Macquarie River and and through rolling farmland.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo is one of the world’s leading open range zoological parks. Home to more than 4000 animals, the list includes lions, Rhino, tigers elephants and giraffes roaming over more than 300 hectares of open space.

Visitors can explore the zoo by cart or bike, with keepr talks, animal shows and close encounters daily.

The Old Dubbo Gaol gives visitors a taste of life was like as prisoner in the 19th and early 20th century. step inside the cells, and watch a  re-enactment  of prison life, or for those inclined take a twilight tour.

The Western Plains Cultural Centre is home ot the city’s thriving art scene. Exhibitions change frequently. The Gallery’s focus is on animals in art nad inspired by th towns connection to the Taronga Western plains Zoo and the centre’s rural location.

Just a short drive away from Dubbo is the vast Lake Burrendong, the aquatic playground of the Great Western Plains. It is a popular place to fish, boat or swim. Camping.

The Southern hemispheres only Dark Sky Park is inthe nearby Warrumbungle region. it is renown for it’s breathtaking starry nights, and visitors can camp nearby or 

Also nearby his the town of Narromine, famous for it’s aviation museum, and the home of two of Australia’s favourite sporting stars, cricketer Glenn Mc Grath and sprinter Melinda Gainsford-Taylor.
