New Zealand’s Wenyung Keh emerged as the winner in the first 2025 Women’s NSW Open Regional Qualifying event, held at Mollymook Golf Club.
The 27-year-old from Auckland finished the tournament at even par, edging out the competition by just one shot.
Despite her strong performance, Keh admitted she was a bit uncertain coming down the final hole.
“When I was walking down 18, I actually didn’t know what was happening,” she recalled.
“I thought I was still in contention and I’d just try to birdie the last, but I had to make that six-footer for par. But it feels good, still hasn’t kicked in yet.”
Staying calm and collected was the key to her victory.
“I wasn’t thinking too much about the score; it was just getting the ball in play. I was out of position a couple of times but managed to get it back in play, so I think that’s what helped,” Keh explained.
“It was pretty chill; it felt pretty casual, so I think that’s the best way to play golf. Nothing too serious. When we made bogeys, we didn’t get too emotional about it and just kept going and kept moving forward.”
Adding a special element to her win, Keh happened to be grouped with her sister, Munchin, in the final round.
“I have played with Munchin a couple of times, but it’s always nice. Kristalle and Justice were good too, so we had a fun time,” she said.
Keh, who has played numerous NSW tournaments in previous years, expressed her enjoyment of the experience at Mollymook.
“We love coming back to Australia. Mollymook has been fun. It’s always a good time to come back,”
As for her post-tournament plans, Keh kept things practical: “I’m not sure. Just laundry, get a good feed, and I’m looking forward to going home tomorrow.”
Queensland’s Justice Bosio and 2023 Australian Women’s Classic Champion Breanna Gill finished tied for second at +1, while St. Michael’s Claire Shin, Nayeon Eum, and Munchin Keh all shared fourth place at +2.
The next Women’s Regional Qualifying event is set to take place at Wagga Wagga Country Club from November 20-22, where more hopefuls will vie for a coveted spot in the 2025 Women’s NSW Open.
